Lecture on the theory behind mechanical properties. What do the numbers mean? How can they be used? How are they measured?
Practical work: Groups of three to four persons will design and build a simple tensile test machine. The machine can be built in all kinds of materials and eventually laser cut. The mechanical properties of different materials will be tested and measured – plastic, aluminum or steel. But the students are especially invited to test material innovations of their own. The properties are compared to other “professional” measured data.
