The Chamber of Secrets colloquium presents a range of methods, practical exercises, presentations, and discussions as tools for navigating the tricky topic of money and self-management in creative and artistic practices. It may be of particular interest to those who are curious or uncertain about self-organization, entrepreneurial endeavors, and/or independent work.
Some creatives live for spreadsheets, while others turn into treasure hunters—chasing rogue receipts through dusty piles of printed ephemera stacked in the corners of their desks each tax season. Dealing with finances and valuing one’s work in arts and design can be challenging—but it can also be an exciting journey toward getting paid for work we love. The Chamber of Secrets aims to reveal some of these “big secrets” transparently.
1st session (Tue 18.11.): Elevator pitch, ethics of practice, infrastructures, and the backstage of creative labour
2nd session (Tue 16.12.): Calculating hourly rates, reading a brief, and creating price estimates
3rd session (Tue 20.1.): Debriefs, presentations, contracts, taxes, and invoices
