Which strategies do we develop when the ground beneath us is no longer stable?
Which narratives shape our understanding of crises and the possibility of renewal?
This seminar approaches apocalyptic imaginaries through artistic, theoretical, and experimental lenses. We examine who holds the power to define apocalypses and if our notions of community, technology and infrastructure shift in times of collapse. Navigating the intersections of political, ecological, and technological upheaval, we are exploring collective practices that arise when existing systems falter.
The seminar takes place in collaboration with UMBAU and includes a field trip to an active volcano. Students are invited to create individual or collaborative works and experiment with the format of the online journal UMBAU, where these works will be published.
