Knowing your tools begins with mastering the basics, so this course will focus on that: taking your first swings with a hammer.

You’ll learn the fundamental concepts and basic functions of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, equipping you to create various graphic material on the computer and grasp the core principles of these programs. This course will provide a foundational and comprehensive understanding, allowing you to further develop your skills in future semesters. In addition to digital tools, the course will emphasize the design process before and after using the computer. Before: analogue tools, embracing randomness, intentionally limiting your options, using protocols, repetition, interference, using your left hand are as essential as digital skills. After: printing techniques, risographs, bookbinding, publications formats, ephemerals, paper selection, CMYK.

References and shared knowledge are powerful tools. In our practice, sharing references, approaches, ideas, tricks, and texts holds great value. Therefore, in each session, we will bring at least one reference. These, along with your own references and results, will be compiled into an ever-growing course reader.
The course will be workshop-based, with each phase concluding in the creation of a small, tangible project.
