This 4-day seminar will introduce you to the preparation process between a director and director of photography before a narrative film shoot, focusing on how to approach scene blocking and camera movement decisions collaboratively.
You will begin exploring fundamental principles of visual storytelling and observe how the collaboration between these two key roles contributes to shaping a film's tone and aesthetic. Through hands-on exercises, you will practice breaking down a script and experimenting with ways to translate narrative into visual language that serves a story. The seminar will cover various techniques used to communicate, including floor plans, storyboards, shot lists, and basic camera work using a simple photo camera.
Participants will gain initial practical experience with how movement and positioning affect both performance and camera placement. Special attention will be given to exploring how different camera movements can express character emotion and dramatic tension.
By the end of the seminar, you will have been introduced to a working methodology that can serve as a starting foundation for your own productions, regardless of budget or scale. This seminar aims to provide you with initial tools to begin approaching scenes with greater clarity and intention.
