Food is more than nourishment: it is a social ritual that brings people together. In The Feast, you are invited to design a ceramic object for a specific dish and occasion, exploring how tableware shapes the experience of gatherings and culinary experiences, ranging from traditional meals to experimental events.

The project spans two semesters:

1. Conceptual and Material Exploration: investigate cultural and ritual meanings of food, and experiment with ceramics (including experimental “cooking” with materials), forms, and tactility. Consider how objects create meaning and atmosphere, while also engaging with the experience of serving and hosting. A workshop and excursion, followed by a feedback session with the German ceramics manufacturer Rosenthal, will inspire your work, and curated lectures support your research.

2. Design Realization and The Feast: translate your ‘sketch design’ into a finished ceramic design and actively contribute to shaping the event itself. Selected projects will be developed in collaboration with Rosenthal: others will be realized at HfG (e.g., 3D ceramic printing) or through alternative production methods. The project reaches its peak in a collaborative The Feast, where your designs, food and social energy converge, making the event as much yours as it is for your guests.

The Feast challenges you to see ceramics as a way to tell stories, enhance rituals and create moments that linger beyond the table.
